Summer Research Scholarships
Each year, the College of Engineering and Computer Science offers a number of Summer Research Scholarships (non ANU students) and Summer Research Internships (ANU students), , which are designed to equip high-achieving undergraduate students with the foundational skills and experience necessary to pursue a postgraduate research degree. Students work under the supervision of a senior academic, and often in a wider group of researchers and PhD students, gaining hands-on experience of life as an academic researcher and stretching academic and personal boundaries.
Duration and academic credit: Programs generally run for eight to nine weeks, late November through to late January (excluding the Christmas/New year break). They cannot typically be counted towards the requirements of a formal academic program.
Eligibility: The program is open to domestic and international students who are currently studying at a university in either Australia or New Zealand. Priority is given to students who have completed their third year of study though other students are still welcome to apply.
External (i.e. non-ANU) students from Australia and New Zealand are eligible to apply for a Summer Research Scholarship. Students will be provided with full board accommodation on campus, an allowance of $135pw, and reimbursement of travel costs direct to and from the ANU to a maximum of $1000.
ANU students are eligible to apply for a Summer Research Internship. Students are paid an allowance of $270 pw. In the event that ANU students do not have accommodation available in Canberra, they will be eligible for the same board and allowance as the Summer Research Scholarship holders.
Academic GPA requirements: Priority is given to students who have a minimum GPA of 6.0/7.0 (or very similar). The program is very competitive so students with GPA's well below this should reconsider applying.
Research projects and supervision: A preliminary list of projects for students to choose from is now available (please see the attached PDF below). Please note that the list of projects may be progressively updated. Students should contact prospective supervisors directly, to ensure that their desired project is available for supervision, and that the student has the requisite academic background to be considered.
Application process: Application are now open and will close on 15 September 2019.
Students must indicate (i) their choice of College and (ii) their choice of project clearly on their application forms. Be sure to include the title of your chosen project and the name of your prospective supervisor. Students must supply colour scans of official academic transcripts for all tertiary study, as well as two referee reports. Applications will not be assessed without these documents.
Referee reports should be completed as per the template available on this site, and submitted by the referee to email@example.com with a CC to Summer.Scholarships@anu.edu.au. Applicant transcripts should be submitted to the same email addresses.
