Yusuf Gandhi Putra

Master of Computing '17

Meet Yusuf Gandhi Putra, a Computer Science University lecturer in Indonesia, who chose to study the Master of Computing (Advanced) at ANU to gain additional skills and knowledge.

“Ranked as one of the best world-class universities in the world, ANU is a clear choice for me. ANU has a very supportive environment. The staff and convenor are supportive and this has helped me in my studies and increased my knowledge.”

Originally from Bandung, Indonesia, Yusuf decided to further his studies abroad and brought his family along with him to Canberra as he felt that life in Canberra is similar to the life in Bandung

"Canberra, the capital city of Australia, has a smaller population as compared to other cities in Australia. I find that Canberra is a perfect place for students to study and I enjoyed my experience. I lived off campus since I brought my family along with me. The only drawback living off campus is that the bus schedule is not as frequent as the bus schedule in Indonesia. However, it was not an issue for me because I purchased my own car.”

Having completed his degree at ANU, Yusuf gave three pieces of advice to prospective students.

  1. For students coming from tropical countries, bring more jackets and warm clothes as winter can be quite cold!
  2. Be ready for the study load and challenges - ANU is an exciting place to study and a place where you can challenge yourself to excel academically, this would better prepare you for life beyond University.
  3. Talk to fellow classmates, seek help when it’s needed, and ultimately enjoy your journey learning how to learn

Yusuf has returned to his lecturer job in Indonesia with comprehensive and in-depth technical knowledge and skills.
