"Computer science is an incredibly complex subject at times, and strong communicators are highly valued. Computer science backs every aspect of life today, and it is so rare that your team contains only people who are tech savvy. If you can combine your technical knowledge with strong leadership, another discipline or teambuilding skills, you’ll go much further.
I had the opportunity to work with team at Facebook in Boston as part of my honours project work. It was great to work directly with their researchers; they were very welcoming and pretty enthusiastic to introduce me to what they were working on. On top of that, I got to learn a lot about how Facebook works internally, and code that I’ve written now helps to run Facebook on a daily basis.
ANU has given me the mindset that everything is within reach. I set myself the goal of getting an internship at a tech company, and the hard work paid off when I was offered a spot at Google this summer. It will be really good to meet the other interns and get to work together on something that Google customers will see and use.
I believe that my ANU qualification will be a good asset because people have heard of ANU and recognise its world-class researchers. Also, the huge variety of topics I’ve studied has put me in good stead for tackling any challenge I encounter.”
