ABSTRACT:
The Australian National University, through its College of Business and Economics (CBE) and its College of Engineering and Computer Science (CECS), is preparing to host the Australia office for the World Wide Web Consortium (W3C).

As part of this initiative, J. Alan Bird, the W3C Global Business Development Lead based at MIT in Boston, MA, USA, is visiting Australia between the 24 to 29 July.

As part of Alanas visit, I have the pleasure to invite you to a seminar at ANU about aData on the Weba. Alan will introduce attendees to some of the most recent standards work of the W3C in vertical domains where the Web is emerging as a major disruptive force, in particular the recommendations around the publishing and use of data.

Our second speaker, Dr Kerry Taylor from the Australian Bureau of Statistics and Co-Chair of the W3C Spatial Data on the Web Working Group will then talk about the need to develop standards for addressing data that is spatial, temporal, and potentially remotely sensed and how the standards developed by the Spatial Data on the Web Working group, a collaboration between members of the W3C, will address the requirements posed by such data. The standards developed in this working group should be useful to both publishers and consumers of open data for spatial data infrastructures, Web search, and Internet of Things applications.
