Chemical vapor deposition (CVD) of 2-dimensional organic-inorganic perovskite semiconductors

Description

Perovskite semiconductor materials are at the forefront of research for various novel applications. Their performance has been demonstrated in all dimensions from 0D through to 3D. Amongst these, 2D organic-inorganic are the easiest form of perovskites and show many promising properties for a wide range of exciting applications such as in as solar cells, photodetectors, light emitting diodes (LEDs) and lasers (Ref 1). For best device performance in these named applications, the 2D perovskites need to be applied in thin (less than 10 nm) and high-quality large area crystalline films, which is still a challenge. In this project you will fabricate very thin centimeter-scale highly crystalline films via chemical vapor deposition (CVD), and then utilize the fabricated materials in a variety of devices such as FETs, LEDs, photo detectors, sensors and solar cells. This is a 12-credit project and suits Honours/Masters students.
