Communications

Communications

Communication technologies have reshaped the way society and digital economies operate—indeed they are essential to modern life. The increasing need for data services and communications anywhere and anytime, and the exponential growth in the number of wirelessly connected devices demonstrates the importance of research on communication technologies.

We undertake both fundamental and applied research in the above context. Our work is underpinned by advanced techniques in wireless communications, information theory, signal and array processing, network coding and optimisation. We specialise in cellular networks, decentralised networks, green and secure communications, information limits of communications, and emerging communications applications. Our focus is on the problems and solutions of communications technologies that society will be using in the near future, ranging from nano-scale communications to high throughput and low latency applications such as video streaming or data storage, to energy harvesting and physical layer security in wireless networks.

The various research endeavours are strengthened by: leadership from senior academics; a vibrant postgraduate student community; success with competitive grants and awards; collaborations with international academics and industry partners; and strong output in leading peer-reviewed journals and refereed conferences in the field.
