Dr. Tahseen Kamal FHEA

Dr. Tahseen Kamal, a Research Associate at UNSW Canberra and a Fellow of Higher Education Academy, UK (FHEA) has graduated from ANU with a PhD in Engineering (Optics). Previously, she completed both Master of Science and Bachelor of Science in Computer Science and Engineering from East West University in Bangladesh. She has been a fellow of the Imdad Sitara Khan Foundation of USA which funded her MS studies. She worked as a Senior Lecturer in the Department of Electrical and Electronic Engineering of East West University for more than 7 years. During her role as a university lecturer she has shown skills of a quality counsellor, motivator for students especially for those who needed some support during their time of struggle. Her influence on students has proved to improve their performance.

I have started Phd from March 2014 on Biomedical Optics. The focus of research is on label-free gigapixel microscopy. My earlier research domain was multiple-valued logic and genetic algorithm.

Research Outline

Currently I am working on the following fields.
Computational Microscopy. Using Fourier Ptychography to images acquired by elastomer lenses. 
Characterization of elastomer lenses.
Using polymer lenses to design applications such as microscopy systems.

Research Description

Because traditional microscopy system is bound by the limitations primarily caused by the optical lenses present in the system, a wide competitive branch of research is going on to improve the performance of the microscopes, especially for biomedical imaging to improve the performance using numerical approaches. My focus is using Fourier ptychography in micrscopy. I also work on optical fabrication using soft polymer and designing portable optical imaging systems.
