I have broad-ranging professional experience in higher-education and research, business and the not-for-profit sectors. My core strengths are an ability to communicate complex issues effectively, a flair for questioning assumptions and exploring alternative solutions to problems, and flexibility in my approach to tasks that makes me easy to work with and quick to adapt to new situations.

More specifically, my skills and experience include:

Stakeholder engagement
  • Ensuring obligations are met and stakeholders are kept informed of progress and developments
  • Adapting to new and changing requirements from stakeholders, including changes to policies, contracts, funding rules and new priorities and opportunities
  • Maintaining regular communication to foster cordial relations and to ensure timely flow of information, ideas and new developments
Project management
  • Managing a diplomatically significant research-facilitation unit (FEAST)
  • Responsibility for implementing web/I.T. strategies and projects at PACE-Net Plus, FEAST, the NYSF and ANU
Education and training
  • Design and delivery of audience-specific presentations and workshops, target groups have included school students, early career researchers, research leaders, higher education executives, business owners, bureaucrats and diplomats
  • Higher education teaching in mathematics and physics
International relations
  • Providing input and advice to governments and organisations in Australia and Europe with regards to their international research strategies and activities
  • Assisting researchers and projects overcome cultural and bureaucratic challenges (e.g. reconciling different reporting requirements and expectations across different countries)
  • Ensuring that expectations are clearly understood and that assumptions are challenged in order to increase chances of successful outcomes
  • Connecting people and information in the pursuit of improved international research cooperation
