I am a Lecturer in Human-Computer Interaction (HCI) at the ANU Research School of Computer Science.

My recent work has involved conducting collaborative technology design projects in partnership with Australian Aboriginal communities. My doctoral research at the Queensland University of Technology has addressed the intergenerational co-design of tangible and social technologies to support active use of the Kuku Yalanji Aboriginal language by children and their families, in partnership with the Wujal Wujal Aboriginal Shire Council and community.

My broader projects and publications (including conference papers and a book chapter) have covered a range of topics including: designing for Indigenous language revitalisation and active language use, literacy, tangible user interfaces, public displays, temporality, participatory design methods and practices, makerspaces, and HCI education and STEM engagement.

I primarily work from a HCI perspective and engage with collaborative and participatory design approaches in my projects. Currently, I am interested in the broad research themes of:

  • HCI design of tangible user interfaces (TUIs) and social technologies for intergenerational communication and language transmission
  • HCI design for Indigenous language revitalisation, including technology for language documentation and community language activities
  • HCI design for sustainable and ethical everyday practices, in connection with the ANU Climte Change Institute and ANU Below Zero Initiative
  • Decolonial computing and the embedding of diverse and critical perspectives in HCI curriculum and education activities.

I am a research affiliate of the ANU Climate Change Institute and the Humanising Machine Intelligence Project.

Prior to undertaking my PhD, I completed a Bachelor of Arts/Bachelor of Information Technology at the Australian National University, majoring in anthropology and information systems respectively, and a Bachelor of Information Technology (Honours) at Queensland University of Technology. I also completed a Certificate IV in Government at Canberra Institute of Technology, and worked in the public sector for a number of years.

I have been involved in teaching as a sessional academic for a range of computer science courses from 2013-2019, a guest lecturer for HCI courses, and a facilitator of writing workshops for higher degree research students at QUT in 2019. I achieved recognition as an Associate Fellow of the Higher Education Academy (AFHEA) in 2015, and then as a Fellow (FHEA) in 2019.

I have previously been a Tutor/Lab Demonstrator for the following courses:

  • IFB398 IT Capstone Project (2019)
