A research partnership between Sony Corporation (“Sony”) and the Australian National University College of Engineering and Computer Science will see the University’s breakthrough spatial audio research applied to Sony’s future products and services.
Research and Development Engineer at Sony, Mr Yu Maeno, is spending 12 months with the Audio and Acoustics Research group in the ANU Research School of Engineering.
While at ANU, Mr Maeno will be conducting research on Spatial Audio related system, together with Professor Thushara Abhayapala at ANU.
Professor Abhayapala leads the acoustics and audio research team at ANU. Their research focuses on spatial audio and acoustics for real-world applications in telecommunications, telepresence, entertainment, hearing aids, assisted hearing, noise cancellation over large areas, ultrasound imaging and localisation of acoustic sources.
The research collaboration is part of a longer-term relationship with Sony. Dr Hanchi Chen, a recent PhD graduate from the ANU Research School of Engineering worked as an intern research engineer with Sony in 2016, developing spatial audio related systems.
