Dr Lesley Seebeck, head of the new Cyber Institute at The Australian National University (ANU), has been honoured for her contribution to the Canberra IT and communications industry.

Dr Seebeck was presented with The WICked Woman of the Year Award during a ceremony at Hotel Realm in Canberra on Thursday 28 September.

The award recognises the work done by women in the IT and communications industry in Canberra over the past 12 months.

The key criteria included making a significant contribution to the ICT industry, acting as a role model for other women in the industry, and encouraging more females to enter the field.

"I am honoured to be recognised with WIC's annual award.  We should not underestimate the roles we each have to play as role models and mentors every day in the workplace," Dr Seebeck said.

"WIC does excellent work in promoting and supporting women in technology. Given that information technologies touch every part of our lives, we need to ensure women are fully engaged in its design, development, management and use."

A senior leader in the Cyber industry, Dr Seebeck joined the ANU in July to take on the role of the inaugural CEO of the Cyber Institute. Dr Seebeck brings a wealth of experience from across the strategy, ICT and transformation sectors to the institute.

The Cyber Institute was established to combine expertise from across a range of disciplines to conduct leading research that will help shape the nation's future in cyber security and innovation.
