Engineering Breakfast Series with Dr Nick Brown, Performance Science & Innovation, the Australian Institute of Sport

The Engineering Breakfast Series is an opportunity for current students and alumni from the Research School of Engineering to exchange ideas, make contacts and find inspiration. Featuring presentations from a wide range of esteemed speakers, we aim to showcase the scope of contemporary engineering practice in today’s professional world.

About the Speaker

Dr Nick Brown will be sharing the insights he has gained over his career and in his current role just days before he flies off to Rio for the Olympic Games. Nick is the Director of Performance Services for the Australian Olympic Team in Rio, 2016. He delivers reseach and innovation programs for Australian Olympic sport and for the development of new knowledge in sports science and sports medicine. He is an author of more than sixty peer-reviewed publications and has been an investigator on grants exceeding $5,000,000 from National research organisations in Australian and the USA. He has supervised twelve Ph.D. students to graduation.

After working as a Podiatrist in Queensland and completing a Master of Health Science at QUT, he obtained his PhD in Biomechanics and completed a postdoctoral fellowship at the University of Texas at Austin, USA. He has held appointments in the Departments of Orthopaedics and Bioengineering at the University of Utah. In 2007 he joined the Australian Institute of Sport as a Biomechanist working with Cycling Australia. He was appointed to the Head of Biomechanics and Performance Analysis in 2009 and has been Deputy Director for Performance Science and Innovation since 2010.
