Disclosure and Reporting options

There are several options available. These include disclosing to someone to access emotional support and/or medical assistance, reporting to university management or police, not reporting to the police. You may choose any of the following options, or any combination of options available to you.

  1. Disclosure to university management

If you wish to make a disclosure to University management, you can contact any of the main College contacts listed below. The contact officer will help you access more support and assistance and direct your disclosure to the relevant University personnel to pursue further.

  1. Report to Police

You may wish to report to the police, with or without assistance from your College contact. You may also make an anonymous report to police without making an official statement. This type of report can help the police identify sexual predators in order to protect others from being sexually assaulted.

  1. Other reporting bodies

If you have made a formal complaint and are not satisfied with the outcome after all University steps are completed, then you can make a complaint to external bodies. These include:

  1. Commonwealth Ombudsman
  2. Australian Human Rights Commission
  3. ACT Human Rights Commission
  1. Medical assistance

It is advisable for anyone who has experienced sexual assault to seek medical attention because of the possibility of physical injury, pregnancy and/or sexually transmitted infections. You are encouraged to seek medical assistance via your general practitioner, ANU Health Service (6125 3598) or the nearest hospital.
