Royal Australian Mint - Engineering Internship Spring Session 2022

The Royal Australian Mint is seeking applications from ANU Engineering students for an exciting internship opportunity.

This is a paid, for-credit opportunity that runs for 12-weeks full-time, but 'part-time flexible working arrangements' could be possible.  This internship can be undertaken towards ENGN3200 or ENGN6200 Engineering Internship courses, and the placement timeline will accommodate students to enrol in Spring Session, 2022. It could also count towards ENGN3100 Practical Experience.

The Mint is currently looking for interns to assist with engineering projects within the Engineering, Operations & Logistics branch of the organisation. Successful applicants will be tasked with a small-scale development project to be completed during the internship under the direct guidance of an experienced engineer. In addition, the intern/s will be given smaller tasks to support the operational work of the engineering team, including minor design and research tasks. Subject to application and approval, work conducted during the internship may be extended as part of a student Honours project. At the conclusion of the internship, exemplary students may be offered an extended contract leading to a continuing position as a Graduate Engineer. 

Eligibility requirements:

To be eligible for this opportunity you must meet the following requirements:

  • Currently enrolled in an ANU undergraduate or postgraduate engineering program; 
  • have completed a minimum of 96 Engineering program courses (UG) or 48 units of postgraduate courses in their Engineering program including ENGN6250 or ENGN8260 (PG); 
  •  have sufficient space in your remaining program for 6-24 unit internship if this placement is to be undertaken towards ENGN3200 or ENGN6200 ;
  • have not completed ENGN3100 yet, if the placement is to be undertaken towards ENGN3100.
  • have a minimum GPA of 5.0
  • Australian citizen and willing to undergo a police background check; and
  • prefer someone who is able to work in a full-time capacity for the duration of the internship, but part-time arrangements are possible and negotiable on a case by case basis. 

You will also be required to demonstrate the following competencies:

  • Motivation and ability to work alone or in a small team
  • Ability to self-manage tasks to meet agreed timelines
  • High-level written and verbal communication skills
  • Ability to contribute to technical and brainstorming discussions
  • Troubleshooting and problem-solving ability
  • Technical skills as detailed below

Students will be selected and projects will be allocated based on coursework completed in the following disciplines (not every topic is required):

  • Mechanical systems and design
  • Systems engineering design and analysis
  • Manufacturing technologies and methodologies
  • Product development
  • Mechatronics and robotics
  • Industrial data collection and analysis

4) Your proposed study plan (only applied to those students wishing to count this internship towards ENGN3200 or ENGN6200) – (the document should be titled 'Firstname_Surname_UniID_Study Plan')
