MCOMP Internship Applications Extended! Closes June 10th

EOIs sought for Internship opportunities for Masters of Computing students

Students are invited to submit Expressions of Interest to undertake an internship that will begin in Semester 2, 2018. This is for course credit under the Computer Science Internship course COMP8830.

Expressions of Interest are open Online Now and close Sunday 10th June, 2018

A limited number of internships with suitable organisations will be arranged by the College, where interns will be selected in a competitive process.

Eligibility

To be eligible to apply, at the start of semester 2, 2018, students need to:

Have undertaken 48 units of credit in the Masters of Computing program;
Have achieved a GPA of 5;
Have completed or be currently enrolled in COMP6442 (Software Construction);
Have completed Professional Practice 2 (COMP8260);
Not be enrolled in or have completed COMP8715 (Computing Project);
Not be enrolled in, have completed or are planning to complete COMP8755 (Individual Computing Project) or COMP8800 (Computing Research Project).

Internship Details

An internship is expected to be undertaken for the equivalent of 12 units of academic credit. This can either be 6 units over 2 semesters or 12 units over one semester (this will depend on the arrangement with the client organisation). Students are expected to spend 20 hours per week (if done over one semester) or 10 hours per week (if done over 2 semesters) in part-time placement with their host organisations. No remuneration is expected for the placement.

Why is an internship useful?

An internship gives students the opportunity to work with industry and apply knowledge and skills learnt in their courses to solve real world challenges. This is valuable in providing work experience that helps with future job prospects.
