Applications are open for three weeks, from 12 July 2020 to 2 August 2020 and are completed online on the Defence Careers website with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander students strongly encouraged to apply here.

The Summer Vacation Placement Program is a 12-week paid program for high-performing undergraduate Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (STEM) students.  SVP students are supervised by DST staff and use skills gained at university to work on a current Defence project.  The program commences on Monday 30 November 2020 and concludes on Friday, 19 February 2021.

This year there are up to 60 potential projects spread over most DST sites covering 8 research streams.  Successful applicants will be engaged as Australian Public Service employees for the duration of their placement.

 

Research Streams 

-       Aerospace / Aeronautical Engineering, Naval Architecture Stream

-       Chemical, Radiological, Biological, Food Sciences Stream

-       Computer Sciences, IT, Software Engineering, Telecommunications Stream

-       Electronic / Electrical Engineering Stream

-       Materials Science Stream

-       Mathematics and Physics Stream

-       Mechanical and Mechatronic Engineering (including Robotics) Stream

-       Psychology and Social Sciences Stream

 

Eligibility requirements

To be eligible for the SVP program students must:

·       be an Australian citizen

·       be a full-time tertiary student who will undertake full-time tertiary studies in the following year

·       have completed a minimum of two (2) years of tertiary study before starting a project

·       be available to undertake a full-time work placement between November and February

·       be able to obtain a Baseline security clearance.
