Are you a student in your final year of a Computer Science, Mathematics, Physics, or Engineering degree at the Australian National University?

Do you have exceptional coding skills in Python, C or C++? Are you interested in a casual position within a team at the cutting edge of astronomical instrumentation?

The Advanced Instrumentation and Technology Centre (AITC) is a high-level engineering team that develops innovative state-of-the-art ground-based and space-based optical/infrared instrumentation and telescope systems in collaboration with national and international partners. It is a part of the ANU Research School of Astronomy and Astrophysics, located at the Mount Stromlo Observatory in Canberra. The AITC also supports the ANU’s existing telescope facilities at Siding Spring Observatory.

We are looking for a student software engineer to be a part of the team that develops and maintains software for the AITC’s astronomical instrumentation projects. Depending on the skills and interests of the successful applicant, the role may include tasks across the full software development lifecycle on a range of projects including data processing and analysis, software control of precision instrumentation, and telescope automation.

The position is casual with the expectation of at least a half-day of work per week from the AITC offices at the Mount Stromlo Observatory. Flexible working arrangements are also possible.
