More about the role:

Fire Engineering

You will have completed a degree or major in Civil / Fire / Hydraulics and Masters in Fire Engineering.

As a graduate in the Fire Engineering stream, you will be involved in Various projects that range anywhere from large residential developments, commercial towers or Hospitals. On any day your work can vary from design meetings with Architects, Fire Services, Council & Clients designing an overall fire safety strategy, which allows you to Create Computer modelling for Smoke & Evacuation models and then creating reports and drawings for building consent and aiding in the building process.

You will gain experience in Problem solving by looking at large scale buildings and be able to identify a fire strategy that’s efficient and keeps everyone safe. Interpersonal skills which as a fire engineer you will engage with a lot of different stakeholders and building good relationships with them helps to ensure a smoother design process. Also, computer modelling specialised software such as FDS (Fire dynamic simulator) and Pathfinder (Evacuation modelling).

You will have the chance to join a global network of fire engineers at Norman Disney and Young allowing access to global fire engineering group where discussions and opportunities happen globally. This can vary from directly working on projects from other states/countries to getting technical help from experts across the team. Norman Disney & Young also supports further studies including options to work on a masters in Fire engineering part time as you work which provides a job that constantly challenges you and varies your day, creating a rewarding career.

Hydraulics

As a graduate in the Hydraulics stream, you will be involved in projects with other professionals such as Architects, Structural Engineers and Project Managers. You will get the chance to work on some of the most technically challenging and interesting projects in Australia, while liaising with Water Authorities and becoming aware with Australian Standards and Plumbing regulatory framework.

You will gain experience in various building sectors including: Super High rise, correctional, educational, commercial, Retail and defence. Another learning tool will be extensive on-site experience through ensuring the hydraulic contractor delivers the project as per documented and in-depth technical design knowledge of Sewer, Stormwater, Water, Gas, Trade Waste and specialities such as Purified Water Systems, Chemical treatment.

You will have the chance to contribute and become a valued member of a diverse team with an extensive depth of experience and have the option to enjoy a flexible work life balance (working from home).
