Local student admission questions

Before you apply

Can I apply late through UAC?

Yes, late applications can be made through UAC. Late applications generally incur a late fee on top of the standard processing fee.

When can I change my UAC preferences?

You can add, delete, or change the order of your preferences as many times as you like during the UAC periods.

What should I do if I do not have the required UAI?

Contact Student Services in the Faculty of Engineering and Information Technology.

Alternate modes of entry exist, such as:

Students who have not met the entry requirements for the Bachelor of Software Engineering (BSEng), but who meet the entry requirements for the Bachelor of Information Technology (BIT), may enrol in the BIT program with a view to transferring into the BSEng in second year. Students must seek advice from the student adviser when enroling and need to achieve a credit average in the first year of study to enable the transfer.

Similarly students who have not met the entry requirements for a Bachelor of Engineering (BE) program, but who have met the entry requirements for a Bachelor of Science (BSc), may enrol in a BSc in the first year of study with the view to transferring into a BE program in the second year of study. Once again a credit average applies and students should seek advice from a student adviser at the time of enrolment.

What should I do if I did not achieve the required UAI and have grounds for special consideration?

Applicants whose academic performance has been adversely affected by unusual circumstances such as accident or disability may write to the Admissions Manager requesting special consideration in the assessment of their application. Requests will be considered in conjunction with all other available information and will not necessarily result in a variation in the assessment. Requests should be lodged by 31 December and application for admission must also be made through UAC or VTAC.

After you apply

What if my application is successful?

Congratulations! You will receive an offer letter and an information booklet from ANU explaining acceptance and enrolment dates. If you receive an offer in one round you shouldn't assume you will receive another offer in a subsequent round. If you don't accept your offer and you don't receive a subsequent offer you may miss out on being able to study in a tertiary institution in the year you have applied for.

Do I need to change my preferences between offer rounds?

No, not unless you have changed your mind about what you wish to study. If you receive an offer to your first preference in one offer round you will not be considered for your lower preferences in subsequent offer rounds unless you change your preferences. If you receive an offer to a lower preference in an offer round, you will automatically be considered for your higher preference/s in subsequent rounds.

What happens if I do not receive an offer in the main round?

If you do not receive an offer UAC will send a notice advising you why your offer was unsuccessful. If you wish to discuss this please contact Student Services in the Faculty of Engineering and Information Technology by telephone.

What are the entry dates?
