Why choose Engineering?

Engineering professionals use their skills and knowledge to produce outcomes that make society a better place. It is this application of knowledge that makes engineering more exciting, and rewarding, than many other professions.

Building upon a sound theoretical base, you will be given the technical skills to creatively analyse and solve problems. These skills are highly sought after by employers across a wide range of industries.

The Faculty of Engineering and Information Technology is committed to world class excellence in teaching and research. The Faculty provides a challenging and supportive environment for students, with an emphasis on self-directed and small group teaching.

What majors can I take?

  • Mechatronic Systems
  • Materials & Mechanical Systems
  • Manufacturing & Management Systems
  • Sustainable Energy Systems
  • Telecommunication Systems
  • Digital Systems
  • Electronic Systems
  • Environmental Systems
  • Photonic Systems

You can study more than one major, meaning you could enjoy a career in the aeronautical and civil industries.

Professional Accreditation

The Bachelor of Engineering is accredited with Engineers Australia. In addition to your Australian accreditation, your ANU degree will also enable you to practice in a number of other contries through the 'Washington Accord'. These include: The USA, UK, Canada, Ireland, New Zealand, Hong Kong, South Africa, Germany*, Singapore*, Malaysia* and Japan*.

* provisional members of the Washington Accord

Double your career Choices...

Apart from its outstanding national and international reputation, and quality of its degrees, one of the attractive features of ANU is the ability to undertake a 'combined degree'. Generally this means one additional year of study to graduate with two degrees.

Why would you do this?

  • Make yourself more attractive to employers - gain an edge over other job applicants
  • Keep open your career/study options - not many senior high school students are 100% sure what they want to do, why not cover two bases?
  • Pursue that 'other' interest while completing a professional degree with good employment outcomes

Programs for High Achieving students

The Australian National University has developed a number of elite degrees for high achieving students in the last few years. These flexible, research-orientated programs are for students with a UAI (or equivalent) of 98+. Some of these programs are called PhB's (such as PhB Science or PhB Arts). Engineering offers the Bachelor of Engineering (Research and Development) and Bachelor of Engineering (Research and Development)/ Bachelor of Science degrees. These degrees enable students to undertake a number of project based research courses. More information on these degrees can be found by using the following links:

What do I do if I miss the cut-off?

Students whose UAI's are slightly lower than the cut-off may be eligible for special consideration or maths bonus points. Our Special Consideration scheme allows students to provide evidence of a particular ability and aptitude in the area they wish to study and up to five bonus UAI points may be awarded for very good performance in year 12 maths.
