Module B: Materials Science and Technology Requirements for Managing Records and Archives: Part 2

Module Description

Long-term preservation of digital archives. Storage on magnetic tape and related media, media texture development, composition and structure of magnetic media: polymeric materials carriers, magnetic media and recording process, technology and ageing processes, protection of magnetic records, surface properties and surface, care and handling of computer magnetic storage media, care and handling of sound, television and tape magnetic storage media, magnetic media preservation science and technology. Magneto-optic storage including holographic media, solid state technology, polymeric materials and technology, bacteriorhodopsin and other new storage media.

Structure

The course is 12 hours in total spread over 3 days with 4 contact hours per day. The course will consist of 6 hours of lectures, 5 hours of practical classes and 1 hour of written assessment. Courses will be scheduled according to demand. Please contact Debbie Pioch to discuss.
