INFOENG SEMINAR SERIES Colloquium Series

Space as an Information Bearing Resource

Prof. Rodney Kennedy (Wireless Signal Processing Program. Canberra Research Laboratory, National ICT Australia)

DATE: 2005-11-25
TIME: 11:00:00 - 12:00:00
LOCATION: RSISE Seminar Room, ground floor, building 115, cnr. North and Daley Roads, ANU

ABSTRACT:
This talk presents research activities from the past 4 years in wireless communications touching on foundational work in space-time signals and spatial information theory. Some topics include: finite dimensional representations of deterministic and random wavefields (Karhunen-Loeve), and entropy notations for regions.

BIO:
Rod Kennedy has degrees all in engineering from UNSW, Uni Newcastle and ANU in areas ranging from signal processing, control theory and telecommunications. He has worked on the Australia Radio telescope Project, and has had a number of appointments within and close to the ANU campus. Reflecting life, he saw the birth and maturation of the Telecommunications Engineering activity but is still grieving its demise. He has co-supervised approximately 25 PhD students. He has co-authored many papers. Recently he was general co-chair of the International Symposium on Information Theory, became a Fellow IEEE, gave up a 11 year stint as an associate editor of IEEE Transactions on Communications, and helped found the Wireless Signal Processing Program at the NICTA Canberra Laboratory.
