North and Daley Roads, ANU ABSTRACT: We formulate the fourth-moment pulse duration measure for the band-limited signal using Franks' general constrained variation method. A complete orthonormal basis with minimum fourth-moment pulse duration is obtained. These set of functions have a bit larger main lobe and quicker decaying rate of the tail than the Gabor's function (the half sinusoid). Applications of the set of functions are optimal waveforms for radar system and extrapolation of a band-limited function known on the interval $[-T/2,T/2]$.
