INFOENG SEMINAR SERIES Colloquium series

Computational Rationality

Professor John Lloyd (Computer Sciences Laboratory, RSISE, ANU)

DATE: 2006-04-28
TIME: 11:00:00 - 12:00:00
LOCATION: RSISE Seminar Room, ground floor, building 115, cnr. North and Daley Roads, ANU

ABSTRACT:
Consider an agent situated in an environment, receiving percepts from, and applying actions to, the environment. A fundamental problem is to get the agent to 'do the right thing'. In this seminar, I consider architectures for agents that use a utility function on states to determine the 'right thing'. A rational agent is one that performs actions that maximise its expected utility. I will discuss the use of machine learning techniques and modal higher-order logic for designing rational agents, and some applications.
