PhD study programs at RSISE

Students at RSISE are aligned to one of three types of study program for PhD students. Some student scholarships are offered conditional on entry into a specific study program. Each study program leads to the award of an ANU PhD but in each case enhancements to that degree are organised differently. The three study programs are:

RSISE-1999 PhD Study Program

Students enrolling between 1 January 2000 and 17 June 2004

Enhancement of the PhD involves taking four technical courses for technical broadening where each course typically involves 60 hours of work.

RSISE-2004 PhD Study Program

Students enrolling after 18 June 2004

Enhancement of the PhD involves bi-annual monitoring of the student project according to plans for research, coursework, networking, financing and supervising of the project. Supervisory panels are responsible for following RSISE guidelines and varying implementation details to best match each student. Scholarship benefits arising from successful enhancement of the PhD are available at the discretion of the Director of RSISE.

NICTA-approved PhD Study Program

Students who accept offers of ANU-NICTA scholarships

Enhancement of the PhD involves bi-annual monitoring of the student project according to plans for research, coursework, networking, and commercialisation assessment of the project. Supervisory panels are responsible for following RSISE-NICTA guidelines and varying implementation details to best match each student. Scholarship benefits arising from successful enhancement of the PhD are available at the discretion of the Director of the Canberra Research Laboratory of National ICT Australia Ltd (NICTA).

PhD student project reporting

Guidelines for supervisors working with RSISE or NICTA-endorsed students

Student monitoring for RSISE and NICTA-endorsed ANU PhD students rolls together the bi-annual monitoring of the respective PhD Study Programs with the requirements of the ANU for annual plans, reports and a thesis proposal review.
