CECS Poster Day: Connecting Research to Business

Program

"An effective poster is a marvelous communication vehicle, essentially transforming rich, dynamic and multidimensional work onto a flat surface. Telling a logical narrative with a simple design and complex data can transport, inform and delight viewers in ways that can't be conveyed even with a published paper or abstract. Properly executed, the scientific poster becomes a visual experience that repays over and over again."

The poster/wardrobe coordination above may be going a bit too far for engineers and computer scientists! But you have to admire the amount of thought and creativity that has gone into this poster. Note lots of space, minimal text, use of clear tables, and lots of graphics.

Your posters

Selected posters will be printed and laminated for Poster Day and PDF versions of posters will also be used by staff and students at other events and meetings to highlight our research activities. It is expected that all research students will participate, except those that are writing up, and those who have just commenced. Please check with your supervisor regarding eligibility.

Students may use whatever software they are most familiar with to produce their poster as long as:

  • it incorporates the design elements on the templates provided below
  • it is AO size, and landscape layout
  • the final version is submitted as a PDF file

You may prefer to use the templates that the College has provided. You have as much freedom as you like to create your poster inside the frame.

It's a good idea to do a Google search for ideas on what makes a good poster. Here is one with many creative tips.
