Current PhD students at RSISERSISE has approximately 80 students spread between two departments. Student numbers are rising strongly with the appointment of adjunct staff in both departments. Because much of the research in information engineering, telecommunications, computer sciences and information sciences has a cross-disciplinary focus, it is not uncommon for students to have academic supervisors in other disciplines at the ANU and other research institutions. Some students are supervised by academics from the Mathematical Sciences Institute or the Faculty of Engineering and Information Technology as well as by academics at RSISE. In addition, many students are supervised by academics from National ICT Australia with which RSISE is closely aligned. Each RSISE PhD student is enrolled in a specific study program that defines RSISE enhancements to the standard ANU PhD and applicable supplementation of scholarships. Students at RSISE come from a wide range of backgrounds and cultures from many different parts of the world. In addition to close and rigorous academic supervision, students at RSISE have access to a team of highly skilled and cheerful staff who are dedicated to their pastoral and administrative care while they are at the School.
