Admission and application
Graduate research students
The information below will help you with your application. Students tell us that our application process is thorough and efficient, and our higher degree by research team has been recognised for its professional care of students. Our academic staff have been recognised by students for their outstanding abilities to motivate, supervise, and mentor their students. Finding a supervisor that meets your needs, and a research group or project that fits you and your supervisor, are two key decisions to make before you apply.

Have you:
- Found a supervisor?
- Found a research group?
- Found a scholarship?
If so, then check the application procedures and start the application process. We accept applications all year round, however, scholarships have differing closing dates, so check these carefully when applying.

A domestic (or national) student is someone who is an Australian citizen or permanent resident, or a New Zealand citizen. All other students are classified as international students including New Zealand permanent residents. Click on the link to view the application procedures.
All applications must include three referee reports.

The ANU online application process is designed to make the application process smoother and faster.

If you have previously studied at other higher education institutions you may be able to get advanced standing in some of our degrees. This will mean you finish your ANU degree quicker as we give you credit for previous qualifications.

There are different tuition fee rates depending on your citizenship. ANU Student Fees Office can assist you with any questions you may have:
