Higher degree by research student group
Welcome to fellow HDR students
It's not always easy to meet other students in the College since we are spread between four buildings on campus and the NICTA building on London Circuit, but that's no different to some of the bigger universities here and overseas.
We have something like 200 research students from various parts of the world here, so what we do to try and mix it up a bit is to meet informally every second Wednesday (starting 13 January 2010). We meet either in the NICTA building or the Ian Ross building. Generally we ask another student to give a presentation on something about their research, useful tools, or something else that's of interest to them.
It's not a hugely formal thing. I arrange something for us to snack on and we usually get 10 - 20 people along. It's a good way for different groups to mix too so that we don't always stay in our own disciplinary area.
Everyone is welcome. If you need to know more, then just contact me. Otherwise, see you at the next meeting!
