Alumni
The College aims to foster relations with alumni and help them to reconnect with fellow students and former teachers and mentors.
It's good news to hear that, as a result of reconnecting with us at the 20th anniversary of the engineering degree at ANU on 10 December 2010, several alumni have expressed an interest in setting up ACT and NSW Chapters in IT and Engineering.
We'd be very interested in hearing about setting up similar Chapters in other states and territories.
We can provide seed funding for initial informal gatherings in each state and territory to help kick-start each Chapter, which will be alumni-driven, with in-kind support provided by the College. One of the things we would like to explore is what your expectations of us might be, and being able to relate to active Chapters will help us with that enormously.

CECS alumni chapters in ACT and NSW
As a first step Tom Celinski (NSW) and Tom Manley (ACT) are setting up NSW and ACT Alumni Chapters for networking and socialising. Both are planning a social evening in Sydney and Canberra in late March/April to bring interested members together. Please contact either one direct if you would like to attend.
20th birthday celebrations
We celebrated the 20th birthday of the engineering program at ANU recently. Professors Brian Anderson and Robin Stanton, and Dr Darrell Williamson accepted invitations to speak at our special networking event on Friday 10 December. They were joined by four of our alumni, including Dr Glenn Dickins, one of our first engineering graduands and the first to win a coveted University Medal in 1994.
CECS and industry
As part of its ongoing commitment to more closely engage with industry, ANU and CECS recently hosted strategic discussions with senior researchers from Fujitsu Research Laboratories Japan. The delegation included the Chairman of Fujitsu Research Labs, Dr Kazuo Murano and the Head of Global Collaborations, Dr Hirohisa Gambe. Over the course of four days, Fujitsu researchers were able to see first hand the world class research being undertaken by ANU academics. Dr Gambe was personally given a tour of the Centre for Sustainable Energy Systems, the Solar Thermal Dish, and the super computing facilities of the National Computational Infrastructure. Senior researchers from each College research group also had an opportunity to discuss their research, with a view to developing a long term research partnership across the two institutions. The visit was rated as highly successful by all and is just one example of how the ANU reputation and focus on research excellence continues to offer a strong foundation for the future success of our students.
Share your story
It's always good to hear how alumni have fared after they left ANU. And it's often inspirational and aspirational for future students. We'd really like to hear your story, and share this too.
Next update
Our next update will have more of a computer science focus, and we'd like to hear if you have any other ideas for this web page, or if you have any other comments.
