Reconciliation action plan
Vision
The University's vision for reconciliation is to be a place of learning that respects Indigenous culture and diversity; a place where Indigenous and non-Indigenous people come together to engage with their chosen discipline, contextualised by an understanding of our shared history. The College of Engineering and Computer Science supports this vision to increase the number of Indigenous Australians in our discipline, share knowledge with our staff and students, and contribute to reconciliation within our communities.
Commitment
CECS has made several commitments to reconciliation on the themes of respect, opportunities and relationships, and these can be found in the CECS Reconciliation Action Plan 2011-2016, endorsed by the Executive Committee on 9 December 2010.Welcome to Country
The ANU policy on Welcome to Country is outlined in the ANU Reconciliation Action Plan. It states that 100 per cent of ANU public events begin with an acknowledgement of traditional owners, including those events without Indigenous-specific content or Indigenous speakers.
At this stage there are no formal arrangements in place for a Welcome to Country and all Welcome to Country ceremonies have been suspended until further notice.
Acknowledgement of Country is still important to the ANU and as such the following wording is suggested for all ANU events:

CECS RAP sub-committee
Following the introduction of the University's Reconciliation Action Plan (RAP) in 2009 each College has been invited to develop and implement their own RAP, to be undertaken by a sub-committee within each College. The Terms of Reference provide a framework for the work of the sub-committee and the development and implementation of the CECS RAP together with information on the composition and membership of the sub-committee. Membership is detailed in the Terms of Reference.
